| In this 3D Studio Max & Vray project I created a custom designed ship for the Sins of a Solar Empire Robotech mod. Zentradi. This Long Range Assault Ship does not exist in the Macross & Robotech genre. For the basic ship design I used a cylinder shape. From there I converted it into & Editable Poly. I manipulated the shapes using Vertices, Polygons, Extrusion and Bevel to model the hulls unique features. I used this same procedure for modeling the other aspects of the ships details such as the engines, weapon systems, & details. I included designs I made for the long-range energy weapon systems. I also created those sphere shapes found in Macross & Robotech on the hulls of ships. The Zentradi Long Range Assault ship is not actually a ship in the Zentradi fleet. I created this ship entirely from scratch for a Robotech mod that I am designing models for. This mod will be for the game “Sins of a Solar Empire.” You can find out about the mod at the following link. [link] Aside from the ship designs themselves there are very few variations in weaponry, textures and other details amongst the Zentradi. Some ships may vary in the quantity of weapons depending on their size. The Zentradi have a utilitarian standard with their machines. What makes them so dangerous is not their variety or ingenuity but rather their quantity. In keeping true with the spirit of the original concepts, I will not just make up weaponry of my own. I will refine weapon systems and effects as I see fit with each separate scene. My intention is to create models based on the ships with some modernization. But I want to keep the designs true to the spirit of Macross & Robotech. Changes and postproduction work new to this model: For the materials & lighting I used the Vray plugin. I also added normals maps for all of the UVW mapping texture work. I created a minimal backdrop set up for just studio lighting of the model. The post production work was done in Adobe. I hope you enjoy viewing my recreations of the Macross & Robotech phenomenon. You can visit my blog & like my facebook page if you enjoyed my design work.
